Bad Säckingen Trumpet Museum

The Bad Säckingen Trumpet Museum exists sind 1985. As mayor
Nufer wrote at the time: no city in the world is as connected with
the trumpet as Bad Säckingen. The connection derives from the
epic poem (1854) by Victor von Scheffel (1826-86), _The Trumpeter
of Säkkingen_, from which a fabulously successful opera was
made thirty years later (composed by the Alsatian, Victor Nessler,
1841-90). Today Bad Säckingen is connected with the trumpet
through the purchase in 1984 of the private collection of Ernst
W. Buser (Binningen nr. Basel). Edward H. Tarr has been at the head
of the museum from the very beginning, first as curator, now as
director. Tarr's catalog was available at the museum opening on
October 27, 1985, and a checklist of all the instruments appeared
in 2001.
